The gardens of the Torrequebrada Golf Club hosted on Tuesday, 28th, the presentation of the fourth edition of the Golf Tournament of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) of Benalmádena, II Memorial Carlos Gil (in memory of the first manager of the Tourist Board of the Costa del Sol), which will be played this Friday and Saturday, 1st and 2nd July, under the Couple Scramble modality, for the benefit of the association's residential flats.
The presentation was attended by the Mayor of Benalmádena, Víctor Navas; the president of the AECC in Benalmádena, Luisa Jiménez; the councillor-delegate of Tourism Costa del Sol, Margarita del Cid; the delegate of Equality of the Junta de Andalucía; María Dolores Fernández; and the director of Golf Torrequebrada, Francisco Ruiz.
Also in attendance was Cathy Shandro, Carlos Gil's widow, who confirmed that she and her children will once again play in this tournament in memory of her husband.
The aim this year is to exceed 250 registered players. In addition, as a novelty this year, the number of shooting rounds has been increased to three in order to meet the demand of the players.
There will also be a chance to win a Jaguar E-Pace 160 automatic car for the first player who manages to get a shot on the 11th hole.
At the presentation, the mayor emphasised 'the importance of the visibility of the fight against cancer so that society does not forget the tremendous scourge that this disease continues to be for those who suffer from it and for their families and loved ones'.
Navas also recalled the figure of Carlos Gil, 'one of the great professionals of tourism on the Costa del Sol, and one of the main ambassadors of golf in Andalusia'.
'Golf lovers who participate this weekend will not only enjoy one of the best courses on the Costa del Sol, but will also be supporting a charitable cause,' stressed the mayor.
Luisa Jiménez recalled that the association's residential flats 'are much more than just accommodation, as we also provide psychological help, social care, support through volunteering, training and school support activities, as well as leisure activities and animation workshops'.
