The Mayor of Benalmádena, Víctor Navas; together with the Councillor for Beaches, Encarnación Cortés; the Councillor for Health, Juan Carrillo; the Councillor for Social Welfare, Alicia Laddaga; and the Councillor for the Elderly, Irene Díaz, attended the opening day of the adapted bathing program for this summer at Malapesquera beach.
'This activity of adapted bathing is possible thanks to the collaboration with entities such as the Association of Volunteers of Benalmádena and Arroyo de la Miel, which help us to serve more than 500 users who enjoy the program,' said the Mayor, who thanked the involvement of the association and lifeguards.
' In this way, we facilitate a day of bathing in the sea for people with reduced mobility or disability, favoring an inclusion that this year has made us worthy of a special mention for having one of the best beaches adapted throughout the province of Malaga, 'has put in value Navas.
'This program allows people with reduced mobility to enjoy a swim at the beach,' explained Juan Carrillo, who thanked the work of lifeguards and members of the Association of Volunteers of Benalmádena and Arroyo de la Miel, 'because thanks to them we can implement this program.'
Carrillo has recalled that the Health Department provides users with an adapted transport service to and from the center during the two months that the program lasts. 'This year we also have more space and material for adapted bathing, which shows that it is a program that is more in demand every summer,' he emphasized.
'This adapted bathing program is one of the most rewarding that we promote from the Town Hall, and is integrated within the program 'We count on you. Without barriers', which also includes the adapted dance and excursions of 'Know your city', to facilitate that people with reduced mobility can enjoy, in equal opportunities of a day at the beach and other leisure experiences, 'recalled Alicia Laddaga.
'For this season it is planned to offer about 500 bathrooms adapted to users of the program throughout the summer period,' estimated the councilor.
Special mention
The councilor of Beaches, Encarnación Cortés, has taken advantage of the inauguration of the adapted bathing season on the beach of Malapesquera to deliver to the lifeguards of that beach the flags that symbolize the special mention in 'Inclusive beaches: sun and sea for all', which this summer of 2022 has received by the Association of Environmental Education and Consumer (ADEAC), the entity responsible for the awarding of the Blue Flags.
'In addition, this set of flags that we hoisted today are inclusive because they also facilitate the knowledge of the state of the sea to people who suffer from color blindness,' said Cortes.
