SNACKS WITH HISTORY. ‘BENALMÁDENA: II REPUBLIC AND CIVIL WAR’, with the historian José Antonio Serrano

History Centre
18:00 h - Duration: 1 hour and 30 min

Researchers, historians and archaeologists linked to the history of Benalmádena share a snack to present their subjects of study and research processes. The meeting is organised around a table, where the continuous exchange of questions favours the dissemination of local history and debate.

With the arrival of the Second Spanish Republic in April 1931, the municipal governments of Benalmádena, as in many other municipalities in the rest of the country, joined the possibilities of changes and improvements that the republican policies could bring to the municipality, but everything was cut short.

On 18 July 1936 part of the Spanish army revolted against the legitimate government of the Second Republic. In Malaga, as in other provinces, they did not manage to seize power, the Republican Government maintained control of the institutions after the failure of the rebel troops in their coup attempt. In Benalmadena the consequences were not long in coming and the same night of 19 and 20 July 1936 the first events that took place in the municipality took place.
