For the second year running, Benalmadena town hall has launched a campaign to encourage foreign residents to register on the padrón.
The National Office of statistics informed Benalmadena town hall that 5.000 foreign residents may be removed because they have not confirmed their presence in recent years.
Those who have not renewed their registration since 2009/ 2010 should confirm their presence, otherwise they will be removed from the official list of residents and will not receive any of the benefits, the Mayor, Paloma García pointed out.
These include getting discounts on property tax, accessing a doctor at the local medical centres, registering children to local schools, getting bus cards, discounts on activities, home care, and a long list of other benefits including voting in local elections.
The Central Government allocates money to municipalities according to how many people are on the pardon. Therefore, if you are not registered, your town hall is losing money for services.
