The Mayor and Councilor for Foreign Residents of Benalmádena, Víctor Navas, together with the deputy
mayor, E. Pablo Centella, and the Councilor for Celebrations, Pilar Ramírez, participated yesterday
in the celebration of Norway's National Day, an event that returned to the streets of Arroyo de la Miel
after two years of forced parenthesis due to the pandemic.
As in previous years, the celebration began with the religious service in the church of
Inmaculada Concepción, followed by a children's parade with the students of the Norwegian school
of the municipality and the accompaniment of the Municipal Music Band, through the streets of the
center of Arroyo de la Miel.
After the parade and the performance of students from the Norwegian school in the Plaza Austria,
the director of the Norwegian school, Trude Jahre, addressed a few words to the attendees,
in which she underlined the importance of this festival for Norway, since it marks
the date of the signing of the Norwegian Constitution 208 years ago.
After the director, the mayor gave a speech, in which he highlighted the personal importance
of this celebration 'since part of my family is Norwegian'.
“The celebration of the Norwegian National Day is already a tradition in Benalmádena,
and the Norwegian community forms part of the great Benalmádena family”, Mayor Navas declared.
The mayor recalled that Benalmádena currently has 335 residents of Norwegian origin registered
in the municipality. 'In our city, 142 different nationalities coexist in harmony:we are an example
of tolerance and concord for the rest of the world', he highlighted.
The organization of the event has been carried out by the Norwegian school of Benalmádena
and the Norwegian church Sjomannskirken, with the collaboration of the Department of Foreigners
of the Benalmádena Town Hall.
The event has also been attended by students from the Jacaranda school.
